We are delighted to be sponsoring and attending the AES Conference on Audio Archiving, Preservation & Restoration at The Library Of Congress in Culpeper, Virginia, alongside our partners Independent Audio and Merging Technologies.
We'll be showing the many ways in which our CEDAR Cambridge system can assist audio archivists, restoring anything from a single file to huge libraries of audio assets, as well as the CEDAR Studio range of plug-ins, CEDAR for Pyramix 64, and at least one of the DNS range of noise reduction hardware processors.
Our Managing Director, Gordon Reid, will also be moderating a workshop entitled What Amount Of Audio Restoration Is The Right Amount Of Audio Restoration? In this session, three reknowned experts - Prof. Nadja Wallaszkovits (State Academy of Fine Arts, Stuttgart), Bryan Hoffa (The Library Of Congress), and Jessica Thompson (JTA, San Francisco) - will discuss how they use audio restoration to achieve different outcomes according to the needs of each job.
Modern signal processing techniques allow us to perform a wide range of restoration and audio sweetening tasks on vintage audio recordings. But what is the right amount for a give use? This panel will discuss the differing requirements and ethics of audio restoration, ranging at one extreme from the desire to recreate the original, undegraded signal with the highest possible accuracy, to the other extreme where the desire is to create commercial products that meet the public's expectations.
Following the presentations, the session will convert to an open discussion regarding the ethics, practices, and unsolved problems of audio restoration.
The AES Conference on Audio Archiving, Preservation & Restoration presents a remarkable opportunity to bring researchers and practitioners together for three days. We will discuss critical preservation issues and focus on strategies that will support and encourage collaboration and interoperability between industry and the preservation, restoration and archiving communities.
