CEDAR for Pro Tools DNS2000™ automated dialogue noise suppressor

CEDAR DNS2000 dialogue noise suppressor

15 March 2002

CEDAR's award-winning DNS1000™ has become the standard for removing background noise from dialogue. With near-zero latency, 40-bit processing, and a fast, intuitive user interface, it eliminates traffic noise, aircraft, air conditioning, wind, rain, tape hiss, and general background noise from recordings and live transmissions. It will even suppress excessive reverberation. So today, CEDAR Audio Ltd announces the DNS2000, an automated implementation of its noise suppression technology designed specifically for Pro Tools® users.

Connected to a Pro Tools® host system using just a simple USB cable, the DNS2000 processor unit provides the DSP as well as the 24-bit AES/EBU & SPDIF I/O for the system. Housed in a compact 1U rack, it offers a remarkable 198MFLOPS of floating-point power, and will process two independent audio channels simultaneously with virtually zero latency.

The DNS2000 Remote Control Software runs on all suitable Macintosh-based Pro Tools® systems, and is fully integrated within the Pro Tools® environment. It provides a fast, intuitive user-interface based on CEDAR's award-winning DNS1000 noise suppressor, and controls all aspects of the DNS2000, as well as automating all its operating parameters. Furthermore, it allows you to control up to 126 processor units (252 channels of digital audio) simultaneously, thus making it more than adequate for the largest post installations. And, with its advanced timecode capabilities, the DNS2000 adds full automation to the most powerful noise suppression in film production, dubbing, remote, and studio broadcast.

Gordon Reid, Managing Director of CEDAR Audio, says of the new system, "The DNS1000 is already a standard in post as well as broadcast studios and forensic audio laboratories. But if there was one extra facility that our customers requested, it was automation. Since the majority of these customers now use Pro Tools® systems, it was inevitable that we would design the first automated version of our dialogue noise suppression to run in conjunction with Digidesign's software. However, rather than make the DNS2000 a traditional plug-in - which would have put far too much stress on the Pro Tools host computer - we have developed this innovative approach that combines the best features of an outboard processor with the best features of a software plug-in. We encapsulate this concept in the catch-phrase, 'Powered by CEDAR, Controlled by Pro Tools®'. We will demonstrate the DNS2000 at NAB in Las Vegas next month, and will ship the product shortly after."
